Automation of precise gas control for material-process researches; Application to synchrotron radiation real-time observation of surface reactions

Surface chemistry experimental end-station at BL23SU in SPring-8 is widely used to study various surfaces and interfaces of functional materials by means of soft X-rays synchrotron radiation. To analyze surface chemical reactions between gas and solid surfaces, an accurate control of flow-rates of gases is essential. This paper describes a computerized automatic gas flow control system to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of gas-surface reaction experiments in the pressure range of ultra-high vacuum (molecular flow) conditions. The system uses feedback control to operate the slow-leak valve to control the gas-pressure. As a result, the system achieved results equivalent to those of a skilled experimenter.

Design method of discrete-time 2DOF controller based on output response sequence; Suppression of manipulated variable oscillation by regularized least square solution

Ishikawa, Nobuyuki; Abe, Kenichi*

Denki Gakkai Rombunshi, C, 124(2), p.580 - 581, 2004/02

We have previously proposed the method for designing feedforward element of discrete-time 2DOF controller to realize a desired output response (reference response characteristics). In the method, the feedforward element is designed in the least square sense by solving a linear equation expressing the relation between the output sequence and the design parameter of feedforward element. Since this method is based on the controller parameterized by stable rational function, it is possible to realize desired reference response characteristics approximately even for the non-minimum phase plant by setting the rational function parameter to the polynomial. In this report, the design result by regularized least square solution is presented to suppress the manipulated variable response oscillation especially caused in the case for the non-minimum phase plant.

An Approximate design method of discrete-time 2DOF controller and its parameter tuning

Ishikawa, Nobuyuki; Abe, Kenichi*

Denki Gakkai Rombunshi, C, 123(2), p.317 - 323, 2003/02

This paper presents a method of designing a feedforward element of 2DOF controller based on the approximation in time domain. Since we deal with the discrete-time 2DOF controller parameterized with rational stable function, the relation of the controller parameter and output sequence is expressed in the form of simple linear equation, through which the feedforward element of 2DOF controller can be designed. In addition, we also propose a controller parameter tuning method to enhance the reference response characteristics of control system by applying the iterative solution commonly utilized in numerical calculation. The results of the numerical simulation show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

In the Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation (PNC), the following are examined as part of an application technology using a high power electron linac : monochromatic gamma ray sources, free electron lasers, and intense positron sources. This report describes an adaptive estimate of a superconducting magnet in order to efficiently converge a positron beam for the development of an intense positron source. By comparing the intensity of a positron beam using a superconducting magnet with a normal conducting magnet, the intensity obtained was more than double. In addition, a small magnet was manufactured in order to examine the characteristics of the superconducting magnet as a solenoid coil. An excitement test was carried out with rated current. As a result of measuring the maximum magnetic field on the central axis, we achieved 5.6 Tesla, which was the designed value. Therefore, it was confirmed to function as a focusing device, when the superconducting magnet was used to converge the positron beam.
